the world’s best honeymoon hideaway

understated island luxury

Nestled comfortably on the hillside of the medieval village of Pyrgos, the island’s highest village, and boasting a 270-degree wide panoramic view of the northern part of Santorini, Carpe Diem Exclusive Boutique Resort is renowned for its unique and minimal aesthetics.

Carpe Diem Santorini is an award-winning, adults-only, ultra-private spa resort. Just ten suites, the island’s largest, individually designed and developed by the island’s most renowned engineer, the late George Kopatsaris, who since 1982 and until 2011 led most of hotel development in Santorini. On the property you will also find EXALTIS, our high end fine-dining restaurantALTHEA, our luxury spa, and an impressive wedding venue. To the present day, the resort has been run by the same family, maintaining the same core values of sustainable travel, warm hospitality and high-end luxury.

In the past we have been named World’s Best Relaxation Retreat (2018), World’s Best Honeymoon Hideaway (2017) and most recently we have been recognised with the Silver Award in the Best in Luxury Category the International Travel & Tourism Awards held at the 2019 WTM in London. You can browse all our accolades and press coverage here.

We are one of the safest COVID-19 hotels in the world not only due to our unique property layout, which ensures ample outdoor space and high privacy, but also due to the stringent measures we are taking to ensure you have the safest stay possible. You can read about our COVID-19 policy in full here.

We believe that travel can play a major role in cutting global greenhouse emissions that contribute to climate change. Since our first year of operation in 2008, we have been global pioneers in sustainable hospitality. Today, we are one of the world’s first climate positive resorts, planting 10 trees for every reservation we receive on our website and offsetting all our carbon emissions. We are also running on 100% certified clean electricity from renewable energy sources.

Over the years we have also supported the work of exemplary organisations such as Doctors of the World Greece and Muscular Dystrophy UK; we believe there is nothing more important than giving back, and with the support of our guests, we have been able to raise thousands of euros worth of donations for these organisations. You can read more about our Green & Responsible Initiative here.

Carpe Diem Santorini Georgios Kopatsaris

about the developer and engineer

Carpe Diem is the legacy project and brainchild of the late Georgios Kopatsaris, the renowned engineer who since 1982 and until 2011, led most of the hotel development on Santorini. Carpe Diem gave him the opportunity to develop a property with virtually no compromise on quality and features, purpose-built for the needs of the VIP luxury traveller.

Today his design values and unwavering commitment to quality remain more relevant than ever, while his unique way of life inspires to never settle for less, but to seize the day and work towards a truly lasting impact.

The architecture

The architecture, Carpe Diem Santorini
The unique architecture of Carpe Diem brings together ultra-chic minimalist lines and combines them with Cycladic practicality; for example, the whitewashed buildings with their thick walls serve the meaningful function of reflecting the scorching heat of the summer.

The construction techniques

The construction techniques, Carpe Diem Santorini
The property’s design and construction by Georgios Kopatsaris, utilised a wide range of meticulous techniques, such as patiti tsimentokonia and stucco veneziano to achieve the highest craftsmanship possible. The property is renovated every year to maintain the original feel that its creator intended.

The family

The family , Carpe Diem Santorini
Carpe Diem Santorini is still run by the Kopatsaris family to ensure that the highest standards of service and quality are attained. Fotini, the mother, and her children, Sotiris and Sofia, are working hard to build on George Kopatsaris's legacy. Fotini is the Operations Manager of the property while Sotiris, the Managing Director, followed the footsteps of his father and studied Mechanical Engineering and Management with degrees from the University of Sheffield and Imperial College London. Sofia on the other hand is the Hotel Manager and has majored in Tourism & Hospitality Management at the University of Surrey and ALBA Graduate Business School. Their hands-on approach to the guest experience ensures a continuous commitment to excellence and innovation.
