about the developer and engineer

Carpe Diem is the legacy project and brainchild of the late Giorgos Kopatsaris, the renowned engineer who since 1982 and until 2011, led most of the hotel development on Santorini. Carpe Diem gave him the opportunity to develop a property with virtually no compromise on quality and features, purpose-built for the needs of the VIP luxury traveller.

Today his design values and unwavering commitment to quality remain more relevant than ever, while his unique way of life inspires to never settle for less, but to seize the day and work towards a truly lasting impact.

The architecture

The unique architecture of Carpe Diem brings together ultra-chic minimalist lines and combines them with Cycladic practicality; for example, the whitewashed buildings with their thick walls serve the meaningful function of reflecting the scorching heat of the summer.

The construction techniques

The property’s design and construction by Yorgos Kopatsaris, utilised a wide range of meticulous techniques, such as patiti tsimentokonia and stucco veneziano to achieve the highest craftsmanship possible. The property is renovated every year to maintain the original feel that its creator intended.

The family

Carpe Diem Santorini is still run by the Kopatsaris family to ensure that the highest standards of service and quality are attained. Sotiris Kopatsaris and Sofia Kopatsari are the next generation, working hard to build on their father's legacy. Sotiris, the Managing Director, followed the footsteps of his father and studied Mechanical Engineering and Management with degrees from the University of Sheffield and Imperial College Business School. Sofia on the other hand, runs the hotel's operations as the Hotel Manager and has majored in Tourism & Hospitality Management at the University of Surrey and ALBA Graduate Business School. Their hands-on approach to the guest experience ensures a continuous commitment to excellence and innovation.
